Woot!

It's been nearly 5 months since the event finale back in June, but we're still having it goin' on!

The Thorns at Orchard Road, Singapore!

Recently, for the halloween weekend, The Thorns together with some of our close friends went down to Singapore for a weekend getaway!

The gang was down (a total of 11 Jammers and friends went down, it was a quite a mini reunion at the Esplanade) to catch the stage performance, Avenue Q - The Musical at the Esplanade on Saturday afternoon.

What's Avenue Q, some of you might wonder? Well, it's a musical, and involves puppets talking about adult stuff. Yes, heavy adult stuff. Based on the ever famous, Sesame Street, the puppets are here are more 'matured', and one of the puppets, Trekkie Monster loves Porn and believes that the Internet IS for PORN. Haha! Jason's Birthday!

Somehow, I reckon this blog will not be dormant for a long time... We now have another update! And this one is about Jason's birthday!

It was Honnie's birthday last weekend, and the Thorns together with our mates from the gym decide to throw a big gathering for our birthday boy - a sequel to our earlier mini celebration at Langkawi.

Men's Health Marathon - August 2008

It seems the some of us can't just stop having fun!

Back from our Langkawi trip, tanned and rested, some of us decided to burn the tarmac on last Sunday's Men's Health Marathon at the Lake Gardens, KL.

Darryl was very enthusiastic bout the race, and got most of us to join it. At first we wanted to join the Fun Run category as we were joining just for the fun of it, and we even joked that we wanted to camp out after 200 meters from the start line - rolling our mats out and enjoying our nasi lemak and roti canai!

To be honest, it was a relunctant decision for me to join the marathon as I was still nursing a high fever - it was 38.5 on Friday afternoon and I was still having fever on Saturday evening! But I was thinking hard bout it and realised that I didn't want to miss out on the fun, although it wasn't really my cuppa of tea! But I'm glad I did!

Soon the few us met up over at the Lake Gardens and soon our adventure began!

Congrats to the guys - KK, Eugene, Ehsan, Brian, Darryl and Jason for successfully completing the whole 10km race! Woooot! And for Jason even more coz he sprained both of his ankles in the process! (Now that's what I call determination!)

p/s: Yeah, some of you were wondering how on earth did I managed to finish the entire race. Well to be honest, I ran for approximately 1km, walked for 6km, and the remaining 3km I was in an ambulance.... :P

The RATTs Holiday Trip to Langkawi and Penang!

Hey there!

Guess what! We do have another update on our RATTs blog!

As the second place winners of Miracle 2008, we did get some goodie bags during the prize giving ceremony, and inside one of those bags was a set of free room vouchers for Awana Porto Malai, Langkawi courtesy of Genting!

There's a voucher for 1 room for 1 night for each of us, and we've decided to make full use of it by heading over to Langkawi for our first ever mega-excursion trip!

Unfortunately, Simon and Nat were unable to join us for this trip, so it was me, Jason, KK and our fellow RATTs friends - Kelvin, Alvin, Darren, Patrick, Darryl, Ehsan and my twin bro, Gavin.

We started off the journey on Thursday 14th August at 430am in the morning... Hahaha. We drove all the way up north, stopping for breakfast at Bidor before continuing our journey all the way to Kuala Kedah. We left two cars - one was driven by KK and the other by Darren.

I'll skip the commentary and let the pictures do the talking... ENJOY!

Miracle 2008 - Appreciation Dinner!

It's been quite sometime since the last time the blog was updated, but we are happy to announce that we do have a new entry!

In case you weren't aware, this year, the Miracle 2008 event broke records of all sorts. First, we smashed last year's collection by not once, not twice but nearly 4.5 times the collection of Miracle 2007!

Together, with the RUSH teams and the general public, we managed to raise an unexpected RM 90,000!

And of that amount, more than 70% of it came from all the 7 RUSH teams!

To show their gratitude and appreciation for the hardwork of the RUSH teams, the nice peeps at Fitness First decide to host an Appreciation Dinner for all the RUSH teams. Team leaders received emails from Alvin Looi, informing about a dinner get-together at Screaming Bananas at Phileo Damansara.

The dinner was held on Friday, 25th July. Unfortunately, all of my teammates were not able to make it (all the Thorns were attending a special karaoke session in Sunway at 8pm) and Nat was holiday-ing in Krabi. But since the venue of the restaurant is just next to my office, I decided to pop-by for a short while before heading over to join the rest of the gang for our "White Theme" karaoke night at Red Box Sunway.

With this entry, it marks the conclusion of this blog - My team would like to take the opportunity to thank the organising committee of Miracle 2008 for a job well done!

The Grand Finals (Part 2c) - Ending With A BANG!

A lot of people have asked me... What's the best experience of Miracle for me? Did we join the competition to win it? To me, it isn't all about winning it, but do you know what made the journey this year so much more worth it for us, besides raising money for charity?

It's because of the FRIENDS that we have, that have been supporting us along our way!

And in the midst of collecting donations, all of us certainly did not forget to have our FUN along the way.

After our performance at 1pm, the team and most of our close friends were helping us out with the cash donation boxes. Some took their boxes and walked around the shopping mall for donations, while the rest took turns to take a break, having their quick lunch and resting before heading out to help us with our boxes.

Some members of the gang also took sometime off to join the new releases... Not wanting to miss out on their favourite Les Mills classes!

The RATTs, being the first team to qualify for the Finals, have been given the opportunity to join 2 of the new Les Mills launch classes for free - the one being BodyVive at 1030am in the morning (incidentally the FIRST launch class of the day) and the other being BodyJam and at 615pm in the evening (which is the LAST new launch class of the day!).

The RATTs and most of our BJ-loving friends joined the Jam class... And wow! It was fantastic!

This new release of Jam is quite tricky, and is quite challenging, since some of the moves in this release are very fast and furious! Definately one of the most challenging releases to date! And the Butterfly turn... Whoa! Becareful or you might hit someone!

After the Jam class ended, it was the last team to perform - IOI Raiders from FF IOI Mall. They performed a dance to the song Chihuahua, and their costumes were quite dazzling. Hehe.

After their performance was over, it was a moment that some of us have been waiting for... While some of them have been dreading for... It's the CHARITY AUCTION TIME!

If I'm not mistaken, the first one up on stage to be auctioned, was no other than everybody's favourite Combat instructor, Calvin C!

The RATTs pulled our coupons together, and we managed to bid and bought Calvin C for RM 250! And he'll be doing BodyJam with us on Monday, June 30th here at the Curve at 620pm! Don't miss it! :D

In the meantime, during the Blood, Sweat and Tears complimentary class after that, we were informed to get ready to get on stage - there was a possibility that we were required to perform again if we won the best performance of the day!

And soon, we were back at the side of the stage, waiting for the Blood, Sweat and Tears class to end... We were not sure what would happen, we were not sure if they were going to announce the winners right then, but I guess we just stayed cool, and took more pics :P

Soon after that, once the class was over, RUSH Teams were invited up the stage and were introduced to the public by Jacqueline and Eric, the emcee's for the evening.

Teams were being introduced to the public, and I guessed we received the loudest cheers. On stage, we were being asked by Eric how did we ended up with our name and I explained the two reasons behind it :-

First, we initially thought that the RUSH Challenge would be something like an Amazing Race styled-challenge and resembling a rat race, and secondly, the name of our group is based on the fact that we have only one girl in the team with four guys, and by playing around with the English proverb, we came up with the name "The Rose Among The Thorns" and the acronym being "The RATTs". At first the name wasn't as catchy as I thought it would be, but later on, it proved to be a very nice name that we all liked very much!

Soon after that, the results of the team performances throughout the day was to be announced - and we have to say good job to our fellow friends from the other 6 teams - Disney from Leisure Mall, Sunshine and Tropical 5 from Manulife, IOI Raiders from IOI Mall, Cheerz from Summit and Yee Haa from Maxis for a job well done!

Soon, the results were being announced and the top two teams left were Yee Haa from Maxis and our team... And it was pretty nerve-wrecking....

Woo hoo!

This performance win is being dedicated by all of us to all of our loving and supportive friends out there... Who's been with us throughout our entire journey from the very beginning to the Grand Finals...

And on a personal note, I'd like to dedicate this win to our choreo-master, Simon for a job most well done, for coming up with the overall idea concept and for choreographing the steps of the most challenging hip-hop I've ever done in my life. And thanks for helping me to lose 5kgs... Haha.

So yeah, being the winners of the team performance of the day, we were given another chance to perform for our dearest friends who've waited for so long for the results... Some have been there for close to 10 hours already, and guys, this performance is for YOU!

Ending with a BANG!

We dedicate our final performance to you, our dearest friends, supporters and family!

We'd like to take the opportunity here to thank the people behind the scenes for giving us a second chance to perform for our dearest friends... Whom have made this journey a most memorable one!

For me, one of the best moments of the entire journey was during the final performance... The moment we struck our final pose and the confetti shot up... We felt like we really did achieve something great, and the confetti shower was like a grand acknowledgement from the crowd for a job most well done. Thanks guys! :)

After the performance, here comes the moment that ALL of us have been waiting for... The final results of the Fitness First Miracle RUSH Challenge... Although we were the first team to qualify for the finals with an unexpected score of 17500 points, nearly tripling our 2nd place friends, Team Disney from Leisure Mall, but the truth is, despite winning the performance, we were not sure whether we have won the RUSH Challenge this year.

Alvin announced the positions from the 7th place till 3rd place which was won by Team Sunshine from Manulife. Team Disney was placed 4th overall. And the two strongest teams are left to fight it out for the first place... Team IOI Raiders and The RATTs...

All of our friends sat in front of the stage... In suspence... And on stage, all 5 of us were kinda nervous too, although truth be told, we know that we have collected RM 20,000.00 in overall contributions, but would that be enough?

And then Alvin announced the much-guarded results that everyone have been wanting to hear...

He mentioned that the second place team accumulated nearly 22 thousand points, while the first place team accumulated over 30 thousand points... And from that moment on I knew, we didn't win the RUSH Challenge... As we overall had approximately 21,870 points (we did manage to collect approximately RM 4370 in cash during the day) and it was no where close to the large amount that was collected by IOI Raiders during the final week leading to the Grand Finals.

We congratulate IOI Raiders for a great job... They have raised over RM 30,000.00 for charity! Collectively, with the other other RUSH teams including The RATTs, we have raised more than RM 60,000.00 for charity!

That's nearly four times the amount raised last year! And all raised by the RUSH teams alone and we smashed their overall contribution target for the event!

Although we didn't win the competition, we hoped that all of our dearest friends, fans, supporters and family enjoyed our final performance as much as we did rehearsing and practising for it... You guys were awesome, thanks for the cheers and support along our journey, we couldn't have done it without you guys!

In the end, people ask me, how would I generally rate my overall experience of Miracle 2008... I'd say that although we didn't win, but I guess all of us involved in the process and journey took so much from it... And we emerged as winners in our own right... Raising RM 20,000.00 and smashing our collection target by 4 times is not an easy feat, as as the team leader for The RATTs I'd like to take to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you, for helping and supporting us either directly or indirectly. You guys rawk!

In the journey, of which I'm most fortunate to share it with my closest mates, it has helped us to get closer and our friendship bond is now stronger than ever.

Many people have asked me and my teammates... What happens to The RATTs now that Miracle is over? Well, my answer is that our journey hasn't quite ended... In fact it's just the beginning, and we all look forward to see you in Miracle 2009!

The Grand Finals (Part 2b) - Doin' Our Bit For Charity!

To be honest, all of us were very relieved once our team performance is over! We were very happy, because our families came to watch us perform (even my twin bro is here!) and I guess that we kinda impressed them... And we hope that all our hard work and practice really paid off with a good performance that was enjoyed by our family, friends, fans and supporters! :)

Once the performance is over, we shifted our focus for the remainder of the day - Cash Donations. As teams were briefed earlier on, teams will no longer earn points for coupons sold and there was no team voting mechanism in place as it was with last year's Miracle event.

Charity begins at home!

And I guess for us, we were pretty lucky because we got a HUGE BUNCH OF FRIENDS TO HELP! Osman was right on the money, by preparing several more collection boxes, we'll be able to target a larger area and hopefully, that'll pay off with more cash donations which will translate into points for each team.

Some of our RATTs supporters and friends whom helped out with the donations. Thanks guys!

Generally speaking, it was kinda tough and hard to get the public to donate via cash contributions... Some of us walked out of Miracle area to approach some of the cafe's and restaurants, but the response was somewhat discouraging. So the team with our friends had a short brainstorming session and we decided that we were going to sell coupon booklets in exchange to obtain cash contributions.

Why coupon booklets you ask? Considering that teams do not earn points for selling booklets that day? Well, the answer is actually simple. Earlier on, before teams qualified for the finals (that is during the RUSH Challenges 1 - 9), we were all going around selling coupon booklets. And during that time, the team did receive a sizeable amount of donation from people who didn't want the booklets - they were either not coming or just wanted to contribute financially. As a result, as off the last check, we have approximately 120++ booklets (face value of over RM 6000) that have been purchased, but not collected by their respective doners.

So the guys started walking about with the collection boxes while fanning their coupon booklets for sale. Osman and Le Roy decided to camp right in front of the Fitness First entrance - and their strategy proved to work because they are members whom have not purchased their booklets yet! We did receive a sizeable amount of cash this way (by selling our coupon booklets) and we did receive some small monetary contributions as well from the general public and gym members. Thanks guys - every ringgit collected goes to charity to help the needy!

But for me, one of my two most memorable moments during the Grand Final day was when I was standing in front of the Front Desk, holding my collection box. There was these two young boys (mum was waiting nearby), perhaps not more than 3-5 years old, who approached me with RM1 bills in their hands. As I was holding the box at chest height, both boys tried to tip-toe to reach the top of my box.

I was so touched by their gesture and I just stood still... And they were still standing at their tip of their toes to reach the top of my box... Haha. Silly me. So I just bend down lower and tilted the box so that they can insert their blue notes in the box. They both really made my day - and made me realise that what we are doing here today, will help those in need.

More donations coming our way!

Soon as the day progresses, and as charity items at the booth are starting to run out, we realise that the coupon sales are not longer picking up, and instead are dropping pretty badly. The team had another brainstorming session and decided to do two things:

First, since the booklets are pretty worthless at that time (there are not much items for redemption left) and hence can only be used to attend classes, we decide to sell them off at a discounted rate. We started selling at RM 80 for two booklets, and soon the price dropped as we did have quite a lot of booklets left. We sold them off to friends who wanted to redeem products, hoping that we can turn as many booklets as we have left into hard cash to be inserted into our collection box.

Soon, we realise that strategy isn't really working, and not many people want to buy more coupons then what they really require. And then Osman came up with a brilliant idea - to use our remaining coupons to buy items from the Fitness First booth and sell those instead! Selling the tee-shirts, magazines, FF bags and other merchandise would be much easier then to do then selling coupons!

We swamped the FF booth armed with dozens of booklets and purchased hot moving items that we can sell such as tee-shirts, magazines, FF bags and other merchandise... We even bought their Nescafe coffee cans and they even offered to sell us their muffins too! All in the name of charity!

Wah lau eh! Buy so much also no discount ah?!

And soon, we were really making grounds by selling those items as they were flying off our hands like hotcakes! It also didn't really help the FF booth coz we were selling them to the public at lower than the price we got them for! (Sorry ya for spoiling the market! Hehe). We purchased some of the last few remaining tee's at RM50 (original selling price was RM20) and sold them off for RM20! And to further sweeten the deal, we threw in some goodie bags filled with magazines and other items to the buyer for FREE! Now that's CHARITY people!

The guys really bought a lot of FF bags and some backdated magazines, and whenever there are people who gave monetary donations, however small the amount, we reward them with a goodie bag. They may not be anything much or anything valuable in the bag, but you know, a little deed goes a long way. And some came back to donate even more!

The FF staff celebrating coz we nearly bought all of their merchandise, we "sapu-ed" all their tee-shirts and FF bags!

So at the end of the day, we did manage quite a sizeable amount of cash for charity! How much did we managed to raise? Was it enough to win the RUSH Challenge? Well you gotta find out in the next entry - The Grand Finals (Part 2c) - Ending With A Bang!

The Grand Finals (Part 2a) - It's SHOWTIME!

Finally, the day that we all have been waiting for has finally arrived - the Miracle '08 Grand Final is here! The whole team including our close friends met up last night at FF Uptown for a last minute light practice cum strategy meeting. We had fun during the last meeting, where we 'added' a surprise move to our performance and also finalised the details of our strategy - the mobile collection boxes were ready - all 5 of them with the box label printed, our team supporters' tags were ready too (with black and orangy lanyards).

Special thanks to Osman for taking charge of both of these while allowing us to concentrade for our final performance.

The Blue Boys! (LOL)

It will be a long day, since we have our team briefing at 830am at the gym while the results will be known after the last class of the day - The special Group X "Blood, Sweat, Tears" which ends at approximately 9pm+. Since it will be a long day, the team decided to rent a room at the nearby Bintang Royale Hotel, whom have offered us a family suite at discounted rate for the night. Thanks Mr Khairul :)

The programme of the day!

Alvin briefed the RUSH teams before handing them over their respective collection boxes and their Miracle tee-shirts. Team members are supposed to wear the Miracle tee-shirts when they were going around collecting donations, and soon afterwards breakfast were provided to the teams. We didn't really eat much considering The RATTs are joining the very first class that morning - BodyVive!

Soon we all changed back into our light blue attire for BodyVive. Brian and Patrick arrived early and too decided to join the class as well. Frank and Tracy lead the class on a retro Love Boat voyage, and it was fun! I dropped my balls at least twice (haha) and was even caught on video!

Right after Vive, the launch for BodyPump started! And we have about an hour to prepare before our stage performance starts! Jason and me went to the hotel room to prepare while the rest got prepared at the locker room. We all soon met back at the gym for the final preparations, including pinning our 'The Ratts' bling-bling to our pants.

Once BodyPump ended, Alvin took to the stage and introduced the first team to perform that afternoon. It's no other than our closest friends, Team Disney from Leisure Mall! During the RUSH Challenges, The RATTs have bonded very closely with Team Disney and Tropical 5 (from Manulife) - we've been having fun together with one another during the initial RUSH Challenges! :)

Team Disney performed a very moving sketch, and sang a couple of very heartfelt songs as well, including a chinese song that was written specially for the Taiwan Earthquake (2 years ago) as well as the hits "When You Believe" and "We Are The World".

And next is the moment all our friends, fans and supporters have been waiting for... The team performance from The RATTs. We could feel the energy from the crowd as we walked up the stage (GO RATTS! GO COLIN! GO SIMON!) and for some strange reason, I felt that we have come so far, and this is IT. For everything that we have worked so hard for, this is the moment where we give back and show our gratitude towards our generous doners, friends, fans and supporters. We aim to perform our very best!

The Grand Finals (Part 1) - The Last Mile!

[This entry will be about our team's preparations towards the Fitness First Miracle '08 Charity Grand Finals]

After the last RUSH Challenge ended at FF Uptown, all teams were informed that they all qualify for the Grand Finals, and that each team will be required to put up a 5 mins performance. Well most teams have not expected to qualify for the finals because the number of final teams were not being informed before hand, but I guess we were lucky because we have starting practising for the performance, very very early :P

Team Performance

Like any other year, during the Miracle event, the group performances is something that everyone waits in great anticipation - members showcasing their talent, creativity and hardwork - the highlight of any Miracle event :)

During the final week leading to the Grand Finals, we were having our practise for 3 consecutive nights (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night) before taking a day off to celebrate the birthday of one of our close RATTs supporter, Patrick on Thursday before a group meeting and light practice on Friday night with the entire gang and our close supporters.

We'd like to take this chance to thank the GXC of Uptown, Cheng for allowing us to use the main studio each night after the last class ends to practice our performance. I'm sure that she's heard the Front Desk complain coz we are the last one to leave the gym each night after the team practice! :P

I have to add that the practise was exhausting, the 2 minute hip-hop routine is not easy (at least for me) and the team did practise hard together to get it right. And after the practice and dinner, it's usually nearing 12am++ and there were a couple of times where Jason and me reached the office late... Haha.

We'd also like to take this chance to thank each of our friends who made their way to watch us practice almost each night - Alvin, Kelvin, Patrick, Darryl, Ehsan, Le Roy (Brian - HMMPPHH!). Special thanks to Osman too for helping us with almost everything! Special thanks to the costume consultants - Alvin for the shiny blink blink labuji's and Kelvin for the ultra-cool Jappy vests!

Thanks guys for coming all the way, some of you after your retail working hours just to see us. Thanks for your constructive feedback and suggestions to help us improve our performance!

For our costume, Osman suggested that we and our friends wear an uncommon bright colour (in order to stand out in the crowd) and hence, in conjunction with my unforgettable "Orange" themed birthday party last month, we all decided to go Orange. Soon Osman reedited a new group poster, featuring all of us in bright digital orange outfits! :D

Soon the posters and information were all put up - at FF Axis and FF The Curve, and soon our blog and Facebook Event Page. And the word got out... Come in Orange! :D

Team Strategy

Osman, having had experience from both Miracle events before, has contributed a lot towards the development of our Team Strategies for the final event day. We were so lucky to have him as part of our team, and his experience proved to be beneficial on the Grand Finale day itself.

First of all, the team collectively decided that having just one box wasn't going to be enough, since on the Grand Finale day there will no 'team voting' mechanism like they did last year. We heard that each team will only be given one collection box, and that won't be enough. Osman suggested that we have multiple boxes for cash donations, so that we can cover more areas. Osman took sometime off the afternoon before the Grand Finale (Friday afternoon) to look for these boxes and the resourceful guy found some transparent plastic boxes which fitted our purpose perfectly!

So altogether... We got 5 separate transparent plastic boxes to be used to collect donations... Our friends and supporters may use the boxes to collect donations, in that way we can cover more grounds, and hopefully that would translate to better cash donations - which will gives us points on the Grand Finals. Coupons or coupons sales will not translate to points, so we had to work out this strategy to maximise cash donations.

Osman's next brilliant idea - besides having our posters up in the clubs in advance and having our friends and supporters coming in orange... Was to prepare the official "The RATTs" supporters tags!

I guess the tags, the group posters, combined with the orange tee's and the ultra-cool labuji blink-blink's really made our presence felt that day at the Grand Finals. It was quite easy to spot if you were a RATT or a RATTs supporter!

We were lucky in the sense that we had some cash donations from doners that didn't require the Miracle booklets (they couldn't make it or didn't need it), and since we were unable to use it to vote for ourselves, we decided to convert it into cash by selling off those unused booklets - and the cash collected will be entered into our collection boxes.

We were able to sell off those coupons? Since we heard that there will be competing teams from the second season of The Firm reality tv show (ala The Apprentice) selling coupons that day too... How did we fare on cash donations come Miracle Grand Finale day?

The Grand Finals (Part 3) - Thank You!

[THIS ENTRY WILL BE RESTRUCTURED AND BROUGHT FORWARD...]

In the meantime, we, The RATTs - Nat, KK, Jason, Simon and myself would like to thank everyone - our friends, fans and supporters that have been supporting our team throughout the entire event... We THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for all your help, your effort, your time, your moral support and your contributions towards the charity event.

Together, with your help, we managed to raise an unexpected RM 20,000.00 for charity! And that's no small feat! That's more that what the entire Fitness First community raised last year, and this year, one team from The Curve alone managed to raise more than that amount!

Along the way, we smashed our collection target an incredible and unexpected 4 times - from RM 5,000 to RM 10,000; and then it reached RM 15,000 the night before the last challenge and we hit the big RM 20,000 on the charity final day itself!

Again, me and my fellow teammates would like to thank all of you - our doners, our friends who have helped us along this most memorable journey, friends who have been helped us in the background with so many things (our costumes, props, collection boxes, "The RATTs" blink-blink labuji's, our group poster, our group "fans and supporter" tags, our camera and video guys), friends who have attended our practices and challenges, and friends who have been supporting us "quietly" - all of you that have made our experience a most memorable and an a most enjoyable one!

And to our new friends we made along the journey, the people that have made the RUSH Challenges so fun and memorable - Team Disney from Leisure Mall, Tropical 5 from Manulife, Yee Haa from Maxis, Cheerz from Summit, Sunshine from Manulife and IOI Raiders from IOI Mall. Great job peeps! Together, all the RUSH teams managed to raise approximately RM 60,000 alone! And that's fantastic!

Although our team didn't win the Miracle Challenge this year - I guess that in the end we took back a lot from the whole journey and experience. The fun times that we had, the classes we attended, the puzzles we cracked, the laughters and great times we shared, the practices that we went through and the great friendships that we've won and gained - now that's something that money can't buy.

We hope that our friends and supporters enjoyed our final team performance - the team have practiced hard for the performance and deep inside, we know that we gave it our very best and we hope that we have put up a very great show for you guys out there. And we know we did well and the crowd enjoyed the performance because we received the loudest cheers and claps! :D

Pre-Finals - Gettin' Ready To Put Your Hands Up!

The time is near.... And the big day is just around the corner... In fact it's just tomorrow!

The RATTs: Jason, Simon, KK, Colin & Nat

We've been practising nearly every night since the last RUSH Challenge ended at Uptown last Saturday, and it's pretty tiring and exhausting affair. The team has been practising hard under Simon and Osman's watchful eyes, to get all things in place, and we just had our full dress rehearsal... Hahahaha.

It was cool that we received some unexpected wardrobe "contribution" from our costume consultants, the twins Alvin and Kelvin (ceh wah, so terror the title) and I'm actually pretty impressed with our outfits that day.... :P

So guys, here is just a brief summary for The RATTs involvement in the FF Miracle 08 Finale tomorrow....

1030am BODYVIVE
- The RATTs will be dressed in sky blue for this class. Come and join us in the first class of the day, while groovin' to some retro sounds!

1245pm GROUP PERFORMANCE
- The RATTs will stage a ONE-TIME only, 5 minutes Group Performance! Come and watch us perform! Bring your friends and family!

615pm BODYJAM
- Come and join us for an hour of solid dancin' and partyin'! The RATTs will be dressed in black for this class!

Come with your friends, your best friend, your boyfriend(s), your girlfriend(s), your parents, your siblings, your neighbours, your colleagues, your family, your extended family and your friends - help us to help those in need as we raise funds for CHARITY!

Introducing (Part 3).... Simon and Osman!

Wow... The days seems to pass by so fast this week... We've been pretty busy too ourselves, everyone in the team seems to hv quite a hectic day at work (except me, hehehe) and with the practices we've been having at night, wow... We're pretty exhausted by the end of the day!

In the meantime, we would like to inform you, our fellow readers, friends, fans and supporters that we will be doing BODYVIVE (starts at 1030am), followed by our TEAM PERFORMANCE (at 1245pm) and BODYJAM (starts at 615pm) on Saturday.

Please come and support our team, come in your brightest orange tee that day!

And back to our entry for today, we have our last member Simon... And our very special 'guest'... Osman!

Introducing.... Simon!

Simon is one the nicest guy around that you'll ever get to know. He brings warmth, laughter and lots of jokes to our group and with his sunny and chirpy personality, he has never fails to cheer us up whenever we are down (ok, we are rarely down actually).

Simon is the oldest guy in the group (hahahaha) and he brings his experience and expertise to the group as the Head of Choreo and Performance. Simon is solely in charge of all aspects relating to the final 5 mins performance, and he has the final say in the songs and choreo that we are doing... Hahaha.

For those that might not know, Simon have joined Miracle '07 last year, and his team "Danz" was 2nd runner up in the BodyJam tribe finals. He was also responsible for choreo-ing their performance last year, and now being a part of a Miracle team, I know how much hard works he puts into them.

While it was arguably my mistake in selecting a rather uptempo song for our performance, nevertheless is Simon's job to make us work the choreography. And that's not too easy for me, so there were a couple of instances where we would have to modify th choreo to suit everyone's level (We all love you Simon!) but actually, it was more to suit my level coz my legs are not made for such fast moves... Hahahaha (We still love you Simon! :P)

I heard that he had a challenging time designing the choreo that we'll be doing for the final performance this Saturday, and he had burnt the midnight oil to rework the chorey (after our RUSH Challenges) to accommodate the whole group so that everyone can move nicely (Yes, you heard us! We still love you!)

Simon has attended all 9 RUSH Challenges and was our knight in shining Nike when he got on the the treadmill unknowingly, and he had to complete all 3km on his own! (Alvin didn't allow to us to swap runners) so yeah, the poor boy had to run on his own with a sprained ankle (which I found out only later) that he suffered when we were running during the last RUSH Challenge (You're our HERO, we LOVE you!)

Simon too, together with me have successfully completed all of the 9 RUSH Challenges and buddy, it's been a great pleasure to be in the same team as you. Thanks for the great friendship and let's win this challenge with a bang!

Introducing.... Osman!

Who's Osman some of you must be wondering. Well, he's a very close to us and has been a fan and supporter *jump front and palm spreaded* of The RATTs since Day One! He adds that he enjoys see us smiling and trying our best at our respective roadblocks and challenges, and he's doing it for us because as he says, "That's what friends are for!"

As a retired defending project manager for the last 2 Miracle Events (This guy got the experience!) Osman's bring his expertise and knowledge to our team as our unofficial 6th member. He may seem like behind the scene guy but I can assure you, he has helped our team a great deal, and with Osman around, we're never out of creative ideas! SERIOUSLY!

Have you seen all the nice Group Posters on our blog and Facebook Event Page? How about the posters at FF The Curve and FF Menara Axis?

Osman has single-handedly designed ALL 9 versions of our group poster - to the final one that we are using currently, where we all are dressed in "digital" orange. He also helps Nat with her performance practice, and lets his hand for the overall performance chorey. Besides that, Osman also helped the team with coupon sales over at FF Menara Axis, selling about almost 40 booklets himself!

Osman observed that the Miracle Challenge last year wasn't too focused enough on charity and was done half-heartedly, and is proud of the fact that The RATTs managed to show how a small number of peopole could raise more funds that the whole FF community did last year. He also realises that it's been a most challenging journey for The RATTs so far but in the end, when he looks at the good cause that we all are doing - the families and kids that we are helping, it's just still too small a sacrifice.

He hopes that FF promotes the event even bigger next year, to use the media wisely and to get members involved by reeling in donation not just from within but from outside the FF community and reaching outwards to the public. That's is his aspiration for next year's event :)

Wow... I guess time really flies when you're having great time. Despite my hectic schedule, juggling between work, social life and being a RATT, I guess I still manage to find time to update this blog :)

The team have been practising for our Final Performance for Saturday's event finale, and it's been quite tiring, but I'm enjoying it as I'm getting more comfortable with my chorey and performance... I have to say that it's not easy for me, but with everyone's help - from my teammates and fellow friends, I'm happy to say that I'm doin ok! Woot! :P

Anyway, back to our blog entry. This is the 2nd part of the "Introducing..." entry series to introduce the team members of The RATTs...

And for today... We have... *drum roll* Natalie and KK!

Introducing.... Natalie!

Natalie is the only girl in our group of 4 other guys... And many might not know, but actually our group name, The RATTs has something to do with that fact... That goes to mean that the word "RATTs" (noted that it is spelled with a double 'T' and a small 's' at the back) have another meaning.

If you look closely at our group pic... Especially the one where all of us were in black except for Natalie who's in red... Now close your eyes, and imagine Natalie is a flower, a red coloured flower. And then you look at the all the four guys beside her... Does an old english proverb comes to mind? Maybe another clue to help you with it... A rose...

Did you get it already? A couple of people got it right after hearing the clue, and yes, our group name "The RATTs" does actually mean "The Rose Among The Thorns"... Nat's the Rose, and the 4 guys are the thorns.... Hahahaha. It's no coincidence that in our final performance, Nat will assume the role of "Rose"... What's the "Rose", you ask? Well, you gotta come on Saturday at 1245pm and find out!

Natalie shouldn't simply be overlooked although she's the only girl in the group... She has single handedly sold MORE coupons that anyone else in the group (and perhaps even for this Miracle challenge than any single person OR group :P). She also lends her expertise in solving the tricky 9x3X3 Soduku task during RUSH Challenge 5 at Menara Axis with Osman before retrieving the next clue.

Of the 5 members of the team, Nat and I are the weakest in the terms of our group performance. But Nat has worked really hard, and so, don't miss our performance this Saturday!

Introducing.... KK!

KK is perhaps one of the lowest profile member in our group, but of all the 5 of us, he's the BUSIEST one of all! He'd probably didn't know what he was getting himself into when me and Jason dragged him into the team, but nevertheless despite his most hectic schedule, he still managed to attend the first 5 RUSH Challenges!

Sadly, due to prior engagements (he missed Challenge 6 due to a wedding luncheon and Challenges 7 - 9 as he was in Bangkok for a regional conference), nevertheless KK is one of the most admired guys in our group, as he's a really funny guy and gets along very well with all of us!

It was through KK too that we managed to secure our largest single doner contribution. Thanks Chee Siong for supporting us and in the same time donating towards a worthy cause!

Sir, can we please have somemore?

Of all the guys in the group, KK is perhaps the one in the best shape (he always dermakan his KFC or McD fried chicken skin away, someone very health concious hor!) but he think that he's not that good a Jammer, which I so totally DISAGREE. He picks up movements so much easier than me, and he looks super cool doing it. He's the one with the best stamina too, but unfortunately when we needed him most, he was having fun in Bangkok. LOL!

Deng. And he makes me jealous coz he looks dem good in my borrowed black singlet while I look.... better without :p

So who's left for tomorrow? Haha. That's not too hard to guess, right? The big 'guy' is kinda hard to miss... Hahaha. But we have a surprise for tomorrow's entry as well.. We have a very special "guest", so if you guys wanna know who this mystery guy is, check the blog out tomorrow! :D

Introducing (Part 1).... Colin and Jason!

Since we have currently completed all of the 9 RUSH Challenges already (the last one was held at FF Uptown on Saturday, 14th June) and teams have exactly one week to prepare for the Miracle '08 Event Finale on this Saturday at the Piazza, The Curve for their respective 5-minutes team performances.

And since some of you were very eager to follow our team's progress throughout this charity challenge, and were like practically checking out this blog everyday, if not the first webpage you check as you log online - but the lack of challenges means that we would have nothing interesting to write the whole of this week...

But don't worry, because we're gonna take this opportunity to introduce each of our team member of The RATTs in this "Introducing..." entry series. In each entry, we'll introduce each of our team member and a little on their background, the role that they play and how each of them contribute towards the team.

Introducing.... Colin!

In this first instalment, the team has asked me to be the first one to start... So here I am, writing an entry about myself. Haha. Perasan right? :P

Well, my name is Colin and I'm the democratically "elected" (in order words, was chosen unanimously without having any say LOL) as the team leader of The RATTs. So hmmm... If you want to know bout more bout my profile and stats etc you can point that browser to my Facebook profile... Or you can ask me in person because no one wants to read about it in this entry, right? :D

But perhaps you'd like to know that since the whole Miracle RUSH Challenge began nearly 4 weeks ago, I've already lost about 3kgs... All the Balance/Attack/Jam/Combat/RPM Challenge/Step/Vive/Pump and all that running during the last Challenge at Uptown and performance practice are finally showing some results... Some of my friends have remarked that I've slimmed down a bit, but I can assure you that it's a temporary phase and once the event ends this Saturday, me weight will start to pile up again. Hahahaha.

Although I've been rather busy with work and other prior engagements, I guess that in my team, Simon and I have not missed any of the 9 challenges so far, and that's a fact that we both are proud off. All that travelling, sweating and all the fun - attending the class, solving the clues and winning the individual challenges have all made this charity drive even more memorable for me. And what's more fantastic is that I'm being able to do it with my very close group of friends and that's something that I would never wanna trade for, ever!

And as the team leader of The RATTs - Actually there's no "real" team leader in our team, but we have 'heads' that are in-charge of certain important fields to ensure that our teams works well throughout the event. For me, the term "team leader" just means that I'm the team representative and contact point and that's about it really. Like if there's a meeting or briefing, I'll be there. If I have to chose something I'll be there but of course all decisions are first discussed with our team members before we make up our mind. For everything else, we have a person who will oversee it, as well as an assistant shall the need arises.

Abusing my power as Team Leader, "SIMON! DON'T STOP!" :P

In my team, it is my main responsibility to overlook two very important areas - Overall Coupon Sales as well as our Cyber-Campaign.

For the Overall Coupon Sales, I keep track of our overall coupon booklet sales statistics from each of our team members, making sure that we always have adequate spare booklets (I'll prepurchase some booklets in advance) to issue out shall the need arises. It's quite a daunting task to keep track of the coupon sales, as we receive quite a number of contributions, some in the form of cash while some were in the form of cheques. So it was my responsibility to follow up with the Marketing Department of Fitness First to ensure that the cheques are cleared on time, and that booklets were issued for them so that they can be passed back to our doners. I also keep all coupon-related documents with me - including our Team Passport, our clue sheets and also the coupon-verification sheets which was submitted during our last RUSH Challenge at Uptown.

One of the first entries on our blog!

In the field of Cyber-Campaign, we draw some experience from the previous national elections... Where blogs and online websites play an important role in disseminating information, and as the official The RATTs webmaster, it was my idea to come out with our blog, theratts.blogspot.com. I've been maintaining this blog and have been regularly updating entries for each of the 9 Challenges so far (for each RUSH Challenge, there is one pre-challenge and one post-challenge entry) and it has been quite an exhaustive task as some of the entries require hours of brain storming and writing.

But I'm happy because I know that all our friends, supporters and visitors who read the blog enjoys the entry, as much as I did writing them, so it's all good. Besides the blog, I've also created an Event Page for our group in Facebook to promote more awareness of the event as well as to further promote our team.

Introducing.... Jason!

Next up, is no other than the youngest guy in our group, Jason. Jason's the baby boy of the group, but I can assure you that this boy is nothing but small. Hahaha.

Jason works in Cyberjaya and he refuses to drive all the way to work from home (he takes the bus from 1U to Cyberjaya) and as a result, he missed our 5th RUSH Challenge RPM classes because it was held way too early. But he did arrive in time to see me, Nat and KK riding till our legs sore in RPM Challenge... Haha.

Jason brings a lot of comedy and comic relief to our group, and he's just a joy to be with. And similar with me, Jason too have lost some kilo's since the challenge started several weeks ago... Hahaha. And in the course of this challenge, he has had the chance to try several new programs that he has not tried before eg BodyVive (eh sukanya!) and BodyAttack (eh bencinya!). Hahahaha.

Jason is our official cameraman for the team, as most of the pics and videos on the blog comes from his lens. Some of the nice pics in the blogs came from him and he has also managed to shoot some very memorable videos throughout the challenge so far which never fails to bring all of us to laughter each time we see it. I still laugh when I see the videos that I appear in!

Besides that, Jason also helps Simon with our team performance. Jason, like Simon is 'gifted' (unlike me) and catches the movements rather easily and with great style. So when Simon is taking a break, he'll drill me, KK and Nat through our routines like an evil ....... LOL. Hahahahaha. I'm just kidding. He's not that bad ok? And the last time I check, he's still single.... Haha.

Challenge 9 (Part 2) - And The Final Result Is....

This entry picks up the moment the last entry stopped... That was when all RUSH teams were told to head over to the Main Studio where we were going to be informed about the upcoming Miracle '08 Event Finale taking place the coming Saturday, June 21st at the Piazza, The Curve.

All teams were soon seated inside the Main Studio - Team Disney from Leisure Mall, Team Cheers from Summit, Team Yee-Ha from Maxis, IOI Raiders from IOI Mall, and teams Tropical 5 and Sunshine from Manulife and of course last but not least, The RATTs from The Curve! Suddenly, the theme song from the Amazing Race was played and Herny and Teoh walked in. Herny have been tabulating the scores for all teams - incorporating scores from RUSH Challenge #1 to Challenge #9 as well as the points accummulated from the teams' overall coupon sales.

Alvin Looi started off the results session by announcing the points that all teams have accumulated since Challenge 1 to Challenge 8. The RATTs accumulated a total of 670 points from those first 8 challenges (max points was 780), and was 2nd place behind IOI Mall which scored 680 points if I was not mistaken.

After that Alvin started to announce the points each team scored during the final RUSH Challenge, RUSH Challenge #9. Am not sure how did the other teams fare, but The RATTs scored a total of 480 points (from the fill-in-the table challenge, max 540 points) and 700 points for coming in third (1st place 1000 points and 2nd place 850 points) during the last 3km treadmill challenge. That's a total of 1180 points from a maximum of 1540 points allocated for the RUSH Challenge 9. That means to date from all of the 9 RUSH Challenges, we have accumulated a total of 1850 points! That's pretty impressive considering more than half of it came from the last Challenge!

After that comes the moment that all of us have been waiting in suspence. For the past 3 weeks, teams have been trying to figure out how the other teams have been doing in terms of coupons sales, and to be honest, I was really not sure how our sales would be when compared to the other teams. The news have spread that three clubs have enjoyed brisk coupon sales which is The Curve, IOI Mall and Leisure Mall. So it really could have been anybody's game, considering that for each booklet sold, the team will earn 50 points each!

Alvin started the ball rolling, by announcing the points that each team have scored for the coupons sales. That's the biggest result announcement that all teams have been waiting to hear, and for me, I really wanted to know how well we did too! Alvin announced the points starting from from the team with the lowest points... And I believe IOI Mall was third while Leisure Mall was second place in terms of coupon sales... And then, everybody was already waiting to hear how did The RATTs do... Because they have announced 6 teams points and ours was the last one to be announced...

I'm sure you guys have wondered how much booklets exactly did The RATTs sell? You wanna know?

"Berapa ah kita punya coupon? Berapa ah I tak tau? Tak tau ah?!

That's right peeps... You heard it right. We have sold 313 booklets altogether and earned ourselves 15650 points! And I think we tripled the amount of points received by the 2nd place team in terms of coupon sales - Team Disney from Leisure Mall. Great job peeps!

And now, Alvin was going to announce the teams that were going to qualify for the finals... And the first team that qualified for the finals is... is... The RATTs!

And how many points in total did we get, you ask?

"Berapa ah kita punya points?"

In total, The RATTs scored a combined total of 17500 points (670 points from Challenges 1-8, 1180 points from Challenge 9 and 15650 points from coupon sales!).

In second place, was our closest friends from Leisure Mall, Team Disney with a combined 6480 points! IOI Raiders from IOI Mall were the third team to qualify for the finals with a combined score of 5310 points.

Alvin announced that a fourth team also qualifies for the finals, and leaving three teams with their status undecided. He then took on the Seacrest persona, impersonating the "You are in the bottom three" voice before informing that all teams qualify for the finals - and that all points earned during the first 9 Challenges and coupon sales will be carried forward to the Grand Finals.

After that, Herny announced that all teams will be given free entry for only one LM program but the exception of The RATTs would since have the first team to qualify for the finals, they can join two classes for free (Oh my God! One class is ENOUGH!) and to be fair to all teams present, we have to draw our allocated classes randomly... But I really, really just wanted to do BodyJam. Just BodyJam please! And then I picked the first paper and it wrote....

"BP". It's BodyPump!!

ALAMAKKKKKK!! I was hoping that it would be an easy class perhaps like Balance or Vive. But certainly NOT Pump! :X And then I have to pick the 2nd class....

Oh my God! We got BODYJAM!!!!!!! WOOOOTTT! As you can see in the video, I was so happy, and was jumping all over the place.... Hahahahaha. No offense to any of the other teams or to the other programs, but BodyJam is my FAVOURITE class. Haha.

Soon teams all got their allocated programs and we also then chose the order of our appearance... And I picked Slot No. 2 which will be sometime in the afternoon just after BodyPump launch class, so will keep you guys updated on it. Check out the blog for more details to come! (Update: We've swapped our Pump with Summit Cheer's Vive as they prefer to do Pump while we prefer to do Vive so it's a win-win situation! Woot!)

Challenge 9 (Part 1) - Shall We Dance? Shall We RUN?

[This will be perhaps one of the longest entry I've ever composed for this blog, so take ya time to read it!. I've decided to split it into 2 parts for your reading convenience.]

For the final RUSH Challenge #9, if you manage to decipher the clue from the previous Pre-Challenge 9 entry, you would be able to guess that teams would need over to FF Uptown (Clue: But I ain't no downtown club) for the 420pm class of Ballroom Dancing!

For this round, we weren't sure if there was any roadblock task (or it might just be a team briefing) at the end of the class (the printed instruction were to wait at the Juice Bar after the class), but we know that the organising team, especially Alvin Looi (SGXM of IOI Mall) would NOT let us off that easily, and he would love nothing more then to torture us and to see us running up and down to solve the roadblock tasks. Emphasizing MORE on the RUNNING part! LOL!

To be honest, we did hear from some other teams that they will most probably have the endurance treadmill challenge today but for some reason I felt that for the final RUSH Challenge, teams will be subjected to another rat race... But this time something longer, with more clues and pitstops to visit and a whole lot more of running! And being die-hard Amazing Race fans, Simon also guessed that there would be a high-probability that they would also quiz us on the previous 8 RUSH Challenges that we have successfully completed... And soon we will find out if we were right or not :P

So before we entered the gym, the three of us - myself, Simon and Jason (KK is flying back from Bangkok that evening while Nat is still in Sabah) went for a spin in Jason's car around the Uptown shoplots and office center while identifying potential 'checkpoints' for a possible Uptown treasure hunt - and we did identify certain establishments like The Ship restaurant, Starbucks (there's two Starbucks in Uptown... Did you know that?), the famous Treetop restaurant, Oldtown Kopitiam, Baskin Robbins as well as other "unique" shops and establishments. We did a little homework so that in case if we did indeed have another Rat Race, we would at least know where to go :P

We also invited several of our friends to join us today for the last challenge - Alvin and Kelvin (the twins) and Patrick popped by after finishing his work. Thanks guys for coming to support us! :)

Teams started arriving one by one, we wore white today, same with our friends from Team Disney from Leisure Mall. IOI Raiders came in pink while Maxis's Yee-Ha came in purple. Before entering the class, teams were required to surrender their team's Miracle Passport aka tracking cards to Alvin for score tabulation, together with their verified coupon booklet sales for point awards.

And let the salsa begin!

Soon after, the ballroom dancing got underway, and Janice thought us salsa, much to Simon's delight. We had fun in the class, having have to pair up with with the opposite sex while doing the dance, so it was quite cool! From the looks on most of the people, I can tell that most of them have not tried ballroom dancing... Including me! So yeah I always fumble during the guy's turn... Hahahah.

[And now RUSH Challenge 9..... ]

Halfway during the class, as I turned outside the studio, I could see Alvin waving to Janice from outside the studio, and then Janice made a special announcement - All RUSH teams are to find Alvin outside the class. Everyone scrambled out of the class and ran to the Juice Bar where Alvin was waiting. He got teams to line in 7 lines, each line for a team as he carried two different sheets of paper.

Soon he told us that we have to answer the questions in the paper, before submitting it and receiving our next routemarker. When we flipped the paper over, what we saw really shocked us - it was an empty table with columns for each of the 9 RUSH Challenges (including Uptown's) and teams have to fill the details of each challenge, starting with the Date, Day, Time, Venue, Class and Instructor's name. There were 6 columns for each of the 9 challenges, and each of the correct answer will be awarded with 10 points (max 540 points for this challenge).

After completing the table and submitting it, we then received our next routemarker clue.

Routemarker 1: "At least it won't go up again this year"

At first we couldn't solve it but then I believed Simon cracked it. Our PM made an annoucement this week that fuel prices will not increase again this year and so that was it - our first routemarker was to find the BHP Petrol Station at Uptown.

The three of us ran down and made our way to the petrol station. We were the third team to arrive, behind the IOI team and Leisure Mall team. Jason and Winnie (GXC of Leisure Mall) were waiting for us at the petrol station and I almost got shocked when Winnie jokingly said that we have to wash a car to get the next clue (did I hear it right? Hehe) and in sheer coincidence there was 7 cars in a row parked at the petrol station. LOL.

Before giving their clue, Jason and Winnie asked teams to demostrate some moves of the programs that they teach, so since the IOI team were first they did the Vive 'locomotion' and team Disney of Leisure Mall did a Combat roundhouse kick setup. Hehehe.

So what did The RATTs do? We fell in love with Tuesday's BodyVive class during our 7th Checkpoint at Maxis, so we decided to imitate one of the Vive sidestep moves... Hahaaha. And we got it quite in sync too... Hahahahaha. Jason took a pic/video of us, and then we were passed with our next routemarker clue.

Routemarker 2: "I love my Happy Meal"

The 2nd clue was pretty easy, and we all know that we have to run all the way back to the McDonalds below the gym. Teams were running as fast as they could, and we were met with Teoh (GXM of Axis) at the counter. He then proceeded to pass us our next routemarker clue.

Routemarker 3: "The place to shop for single and married women"

The third routemarker clue proved to be a little confusing for us. But then we saw teams running to the shops across the road so we decide to follow them and soon we saw Sharon (GXC of Summit) and Aubrey (GXC of Consplant) in front of a shop with a black signboard - Ms and Mrs. We then were given our next clue:

Routemarker 4: "Ahh.. the coffee's great"

(MIND YOU THERE WAS A LOT OF RUNNING IN BETWEEN ROUTEMARKERS. WE WERE MADE TO RUN UP AND DOWN, UP AND DOWN ALL THE TIME!!!! IT'S NOT AS EASY AS TA DAAAA, WE WERE PRESENTED WITH THE NEXT CLUE... WE DID A WHOLE LOT OF RUNNING!!!! LOL)

This clue was kinda confusing to me. It could mean one of the famous coffee chains in the area (Starbucks, San Francisco) or one of the many Kopitiams in Uptown (Oldtown, Killiney's etc) but Simon decided to head upwards towards San Franscisco and the three of us had to run all the way up the road to San Francisco, without knowing if it was San Francisco or Starbucks (if it was Starbucks, we would have to run the opposite way because both of these coffee outlets is located at the opposite corner of the entire row of shophouses!).

Our gamble paid off as we saw Nick (GXM of SPK) and Colin sitting down inside, and we were then passed with our 5th routemarker clue.

Routemarker 5: "24 hours - now that's convenient"

The first thing that came to my mind was KFC? A bank? 7-11? But soon we saw all the teams running downwards, so we guessed that it must be the Kiosk shop down the road. Oh boy, we had to run all the way down again.

Soon (ok not SO soon) we reached Kiosk and we found Eric (GXM of Bukit Tinggi) hiding inside and then we were passed with our 6th routemarker clue which involved a bit of calculation.

Routemarker 6: "If you can solve this math equation, you will find the next place to go: 4+(3+9)+(2x4)+7 = ?"

I took out my pen and started to do the math... And I ended up with 32. It didn't make sense. So Simon and Jason helped to calculate again and then Simon shouted 31! 31! Baskin Robbins! 31!

Oh god. Really ah this people. Make us run here and there like crazy. Now we have to run all the way upwards to the Baskin Robbins shop at the top of road. As we were running upwards to BR, some 3 guys were cheering us on from the Uptown foodcourt... Hahaha. That was something funny and very encouraging at the same time! Woot! Woot!

Simon reached Baskin Robbins and retrieved the next routemarker clue from Cheng (GXC of Uptown) and it writes:

Routemarker 7: "Run 3km on the treadmill. This can only be completed by 1 member. Finish the last challenge and check in with Alvin to win more points!"

I didn't manage to see the clue slip as we ran back to the gym but I was puzzled as Simon told us to run back to the gym... But we saw the other two teams ahead of us, Team Disney (LM) and IOI Raiders (IOI Mall) ran into the ADJACENT building, and not the correct building where FF Uptown is located. Oops. So the three of us ran and made our way back to the gym where only I was able to read the clue in its entirety. Surprisingly, we were the first team to reach the gym back, when we saw Alvin walking outside and then all of us went back to the gym.

Simon didn't read the clue correctly and had the impression that we were able to run by taking turns to finish the 3km's, but in truth only one team member can run and complete the task. Simon got started on his treadmill (KK was perhaps our best runner but out of the 3 of us, Simon is in best physical shape with the best stamina). Jason and me were so out of breath, so it was only natural for Simon to run (Heheheh). We prepared water and 100 Plus for him to rehydrate himself while all of us (including the twins and Patrick) took our gym towel and newspaper and started to fan the poor boy who now discovered he has to run the entire 3km's on his OWN :(

Soon the IOI Mall and Leisure Mall teams caught up, and all three started running on the treadmill. For the record, me and Jason will have to salute Simon for finishing the 3km treadmill challenge... We were all so tired by then and yet our choreo head, Simon went on with it and finished it. Teoh and Riyo also popped by to give him moral support, but in my eyes, that day, without a doubt our hero is Simon.

Great job Simon! We're so proud of you! We eventually finished the treadmill challenge third behind the IOI Mall and Leisure Mall teams (the gal who ran for LM almost passed out after that but she was ok) and then we were informed that for the last challenge, the first place winner will receive 1000 points (IOI Raiders) and the second place winner will receive 850 points (Team Disney). The RATTs checked in at third place with 700 points!

Soon one by one the rest of teams arrived to complete their last and final routemarker challenge - Cheers from Summit, Tropical 5 from Manulife, Yee-Ha from Maxis and Sunshine from Manulife. Great job guys!

It will be up by Monday noon with pics and all. I promise. I know because the suspence is killing! :P But I can let you in on a little secret... The results are SHOCKING!!!

Pre-Challenge 9 (Part 2) - All About The Coupons!

[The full entry on RUSH Challenge #9 will be up by Sunday evening... It'a pretty long entry with lots of pics, videos and text to compose, so give the webmaster some time ok? In the meantime, here's a short entry on our coupon sales]

Friday night was spent with a lot of counting.... COUNTING COUNTING COUNTING... Counting what you ask? Well, we were counting and finalising the coupon sales that our team have achieved so far.... And as the coupon sales leader in my team, it was my main responsibility to look after the overall figures - making sure that we do well in coupon sales because every booklet that we sell will earn us 50 points!

To be honest, we had initially set a team target of RM 5,000.00 - that's a total of 100 booklets... At first it seemed quite challenging, but within a week with some support from all of our friends and especially our Rose, Nat who is our team's greatest contribution collector - we managed to hit the target! And after an initial discussion with our teammates and Osman, we decided to double our target... At first the figure of RM 10,000.00 seemed quite impossible...

But within the following week, we were quite close to that figure... And soon we did manage to hit it, thanks to some major contributions - a big one came from a friend of KK and the twins, Chee Siong who graciously donated RM 1,000.00 towards Mercy Malaysia. Osman and Kak Nita also helped to get some coupon sales from Menara Axis, while our team concentrated on sales inside Curve and from other personal friends and contacts. The twins, Kelvin & Alvin and Darren too helped with the coupons sales, and actually gratitude must be given to everyone whom have helped us directly or indirectly in the coupon sales, coz without you we couldn't have achieved our 2nd target! You guys know who you are, alright? ;)

We then decided to do what we really thought was previously unreachable... We decide to aim for RM 15,000.00 in total coupon sales by Friday the 13th... And with help from friends at the gym yesterday night (we were at about 289 when I entered the Curve) but within a short period of one hour we soon sold our 300th booklet and soon went over our third revised target of RM 15,000.00! Great job team!

I was informed previously that during last year's Miracle event held inside Cineleisure, they managed to raise about RM 15,000.00 overall for charity... And for our team to be able to top that amount ourselves was simply unexpected! We'd like to thank everyone whom have made this achievement possible... You guys and gals know who you are!

At the final RUSH Challenge 9 at Uptown on Saturday, all teams were required to submit their team passport for points tabulation... And as the team leader of The RATTs, I'm proud to announce that with the help and support of so many friends throughout the past few weeks, we managed to sell a total of 313 Miracle Coupon booklets. That my friends, is a face value of RM 15,650.00 raised for charity!!!

Pre-Challenge 9 - Last But Not Least....

We didn't expect our blog to be quite a hit, but judging from the average of about 40-over hits per day, I guess it's really picking up some momentum! :)

So yeah, I ended the previous entry with a little cliffhanger... I'm sure many of you really want to know what our final Challenge would be....

Upon the completion of the RUSH Challenge #8 at FF Menara Summit, all teams were given their last and final RUSH Challenge #9 clue. And it reads...

"I may be the smallest among my siblings, but I ain't no downtown club. Come join me on Sat 14 June and attend the 4.20pm class"

So can you guess where we are going? Can you guess what we are going to do? Well... If you check the official timetable, you would know that the final class is NOT a Les Mills program, but instead it is.... *drum roll*

Challenge 8 - Not Another RATT Race!

(Sorry for the late update... After last night's Challenge I was dead tired and I woke up late for work today!!!)

Last night's RUSH Challenge #8 was also another great one, if ya manage to decipher the clue from the end of Challenge #7 correctly, you would know that we had to go to FF Menara Summit for BodyPump!

All RUSH teams gathered around Menara Summit for the class, scheduled at 845pm. Teams came in various colours, Leisure Mall and Maxis came in green, while ourselves and IOI Mall came in red.

For this round, KK is still in Bangkok for his regional conference while Nat is in KK, joining her company's retreat activity. So there was only the three of us for the challenge - Simon, Jason and myself. The great thing about our team is that we always have very keen friends who in it for the fun too - although they are not our team members but they are our greatest fans! Last night, 4 of them decided to keep us company for our Summit challenge - Le Roy, Brian and the twins Alvin and Kelvin. Thanks for the moral support guys!

The class started at 845pm with Isaiah at the stage, and we took a spot towards the back of the class. Brian joined us in the class as well, Kelvin did too, but Alvin gave me his bar clips coz I didn't take mine and all of them were finished when I went to collect them. Thanks Alvin :)

Jason and I decided to go very easy on the weights today because we didn't know what was coming up during/after the Pump class later. Simon went full swing (HOI!) and some other teams loaded on their weights pretty nicely - but hmmmm... We did hear some 'rumours' from other teams that there will be a treadmill challenge this time so me and Jason decided to save our strength (and legs) just in case we needed to run on that machine... Hahaha.

Somehow I felt that if it was indeed a treadmill challenge, it would be disadvantaging for teams that came without full members. Hence, somehow I felt that it would be another Mall Rat Race, similar to the one we had at Menara Maxis during the previous leg. So before the class, I advised my teammates to be prepared just in case they call us out in the middle of the class for another Mall Rat Race kinda challenge... Haha.

True enough, half way during the class, Isaiah told teams to look for Sharon, the GXC of Menara Summit for our clue... She was hiding herself among the huge fit-balls in the small corner of the stretching area beside the RPM and currently renovated Mini Studio, and soon we were passed with this sheet of paper with this clue:

"I can hear babies crying all day long. The aroma of fried chicken makes my little tummy growl. I am alone, sitting at a corner, hungry and cold. Mummy, please take me home."

I was delighted that my suspicion was confirmed - it was indeed another Rat Race and the best thing was that Summit is our playground! Simon and me, together with the twins, Brian and KK used to be Summit regulars, so we were very familiar with the mall... So that worked towards our advantage. Our friends - Alvin, Kelvin and Brian too abandoned their weights and joined us as we ran out of the club towards the 'destination', helping us to look for the 'clue'.

Based on the clue alone, Me and Simon could figure out where to go. "Babies crying all day long" means its a baby product shop (which is Babyland!) while the "aroma of fried chicken" meant Hartz Chicken Buffet (Edited: At first I thought that there were no KFC in Summit so I stand corrected, thanks LR and CareBear) so me and Simon dashed out of the lift as soon as the doors opened towards the area. Both were situated close to each other on the Lower Ground Floor of Summit, but at the opposite end of the mall.

I ran into Babyland, expecting the clue to be there, but the lady boss said she knows nothing of the RUSH Challenge or the RUSH Clue. We walked inside the shop to remote catch the sound of a baby crying (just to be sure) and to see if there were anyone who's sitting or walking alone in the shop (ala the Hitz.fm fugitive) but there was no one like that.

So we walked out, and walked along the other shops asking if they know about this challenge and the RUSH clue. None of the shop assistants had a clue of what we were talking about, and were probably very puzzled to see so many people running around looking for this 'clue'.

Before that, me and Jason popped by this cashier at Cold Storage, and also asked if she knows about this Challenge and about the RUSH Clue. She giggled and she said something like, "Apa clue? Ohhh... Ada banyak clue..." while continuing to laugh. We and the other teams got disorientated and left to search in the vicinity - behind pillars, chairs etc. I even walked into Hartz, seeing a gentleman enjoying his dinner alone and also asked him if he had the clue, and of course he said no!

One of the teams, I believe it was the Maxis team, continued to approach the Cold Storage cashier lady, knowing and suspecting that she does know about our RUSH clue but she didn't want to reveal much about it. According to Jason, she was laughing and giggling seeing us walking and looking around, and Jason sensed that she know something about it. Something was just fishy!

One of the teams continued to quiz her unrelentlessly, and she said something like, "Buka mata BESAR BESAR..." and Jason asked her at least to tell them where are they supposed to look for it... And she said, "Di sini je. Tempat Akak ni je... Tapi tak boleh masuh dalam Cashier I ni ya...". So Jason and the other team were scanning her counter and product display, when the other team (Maxis team I believe) spotted a row of FF magnetized pen sticking on the top left of the wall!

The Maxis team grabbed it, followed by another team which I believe was the IOI Mall team, and according to Jason we were the third team to grab the pen off the wall. Because me, Simon and Jason splitted when we were looking for the clue, we were not with each other... So that was a problem coz now we needed to run back to the gym and Jason couldn't see me or Simon...

But he shouted "RATTTTTTTTTTSSS!" so LOUD that all of us heard it, both of us ran out of the different shop we were in and ran the best sprint of our lifes back to the gym on the opposite end of the mall. The Disney team ran with us back to the gym... But soon realised that we had found the clue, but they didn't. Poor thing :(

Me and Simon ran as fast as we could (later we were told by the twins that they couldn't even catch up with us - and the fact that they were puzzled how can this writer, yours truly, weighing in at over 70kg's manage to run THAT fast... Trust me guys, it's the AirMax 180 at work here :P) with Jason tagging behind. We reached the gym and rushed in the lift, Simon in the same lift as the IOI team while I and J entered the other lift which door just opened :P

We ran back to the gym, and ran to find Sharon who waiting at the Member's Lounge... Honestly, based on Jason's feedback that we were about the 3rd team to get the pen, we thought that we did very well despite our lack of 2 members to get a respectable third place among other full-attendance teams.

When we checked-in at the pitstop, we were shocked to find out - that we were the FIRST complete team to check-in! The Maxis team who have arrived first had one member missing so they couldn't check it while I think the three of us outran the IOI Mall team...

We'd also like to include this pic in this entry, a pic of us with Brian who was originally supposed to be the 5th member of our team but was down with dengue and was out of the gym for almost 2 months. He joined us back in gym for the first time since he was hospitalized, and buddy, it's great to have you back with us!

After signing and verification of our Team Passport... We were given our next clue.... What is it? Is it repeated LM program considering we've completed all 8 programs already? Is it an endurance challenge? The dreaded treadmill challenge? Well... Jeng jeng jeng... You gotta wait for tonight's Pre-Challenge 9's entry!!!!

Pre-Challenge 8 - Pump It!

Haha... I heard that a lot of you waited so patiently for the previous entry, and a lot of you were laughing and giggling non-stop looking at the pics and especially the video of us discovering the horror of 'tak ada stock' (that's no stock available), the video of us running back to the gym and also the last but not least, the video of Jackson announcing the results of the roadblock task.

We heard that with all the running and buzzing from all the teams at Menara Maxis got all the security folks downstairs a little worked up... Sorry ya pakcik-pakcik... We were in a race... A RATT race... :P

But I can tell you that it was so fun! Wooo hooooo! It's like the next best thing to being a participant of the Amazing Race... Hahaha. Well, after we completed the roadblock task at FF Menara Maxis, teams were given the next clue, for RUSH Challenge #7...

"I was born after SPK but before Axis. There are couple of hypermarkets nearby. Come join me on Thu 12 June to attend the class at 8.45pm."

So far, we have completed 7 out of the 8 Les Mills programs already - BodyBalance (Klang Bukit Tinggi), BodyAttack (IOI Mall), BodyJam (Leisure Mall), BodyCombat (Wisma Consplant), RPM (Menara Axis), BodyStep (Wisma SPK) and BodyVive (Menara Maxis)... So there is only one more Les Mills group exercise program that we have not quite tried yet.... And it is... BodyPump!

So can you guys decipher the next venue of our challenge, given the clue and the class already? We'll be wearing red tonight... And we heard tonight's challenge will be rather physical and stamina demanding... So God pls help us... Coz there's only 3 of us tonight with KK still in Bangkok and Nat in Kota Kinabalu. Kesian-lah dan kasihan-lah kita... After BodyPump I doubt I can do anything physical anymore!! :)

Challenge 7 - Purple Balls and Green Wheatgrass?!

Last night's RUSH Challenge #7 at FF Menara Maxis was perhaps without a doubt, the best and the most fun we had so far since the challenge began nearly 4 weeks ago! Teams were first given cryptic clues to decipher from the last RUSH Challenge at FF Wisma SPK... Of course Mr "I'm not as tall as my two best friends" can only be Menara Maxis, which is of course not as tall as his twin neighbours, the Petronas Twin Towers.

Teams attended the 845pm class of BodyVive, and the class was being lead by the lovely couple Jason and Winnie. The thing that I like most about BodyVive is in fact nearly everything - despite it's harmless appearance, it's quite a challenging class! And it's certainly one class (besides BodyJam) that I'd recommend to anyone who wanna have fun in the class... It's low impact and slightly cardio (not as intensive as other LM programs though) but it's really FUN! You'll never have more fun than playing balls this way (that sounded so wrong again!). And the best thing is that... THE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC!

The music selection is rather catchy, and I really LOVE it! So folks, trust me, when you join it, it's like joining a karaoke exercise class... You'll sing along! The class started on time, with everyone present with their Vive equipment - the Vive ball and the Vive tube. The Vive tube looks harmless but I can assure you if its being used correctly, it IS challenging!

We were doing the class and guess who came along to watch us... It's no other than our former-SGXM of Curve now SGXM of Manulife, Riyo! :P

We were half-way through the class when Winnie made an announcement... "ALL RUSH TEAMS... FIND JACKSON NOW!" but some of us were still enjoying the music and she had to repeat it a second time before all the RUSH teams got her message and everyone DASHED OUT of the studio (no wonder they asked us to stand to the left of the studio nearer to the door when the class started) to locate Jackson.

Teams scrambled all over FF Menara Maxis and couldn't find him, and even the staff at the Front of House had like slight amnesia - not knowing who Jackson is... Haha. But we all know it's intentional to throw teams off the track. Nat found him hiding in the PT room near the weight machines, and when she met him, she was being passed a slip of paper.

And the paper read:
"Green green grass of home. Drink me everyday to detoxify your body system. I'm able to boost up your body system too. Where am I???

The first thing that came to my mind was Green Tea. So I rushed the whole team over to the Member's Lounge, thinking that the next clue is hidden somewhere near the flask of green tea. We ran there, but there was no envelopes or paper to be seen, so Nat picked up a cup, and filled it with Green Tea and carefully walked while holding the cup back to Jackson's room. I'm sure Jackson was laughing so loud (in his heart) when he saw us carrying the cup of green tea to his room and then dropped us another clue: This 'item' is nowhere to be found in the club! :O

So the first thing we did was to run downstairs to the mall, I know where we would need to go, thanks to Nina who previously bought a booster from JuiceWorks @ Suria KLCC sometime before.

The clues - green, green grass and detoxify your body rang a bell in my head. And I remember Nina bought a booster from JuiceWorks before so I knew that was the right place to go! :D We were lucky coz we anticipated that we would need to purchase something, so Simon went to the locker room to get his wallet and security pass. And that was the smart thing since we were not allowed to exit the building without the security pass. We managed to get the security officers to let us 4 exit with the same pass while other teams had to rush back and get their respective pass(es).

As we left the building, the 4 of us were sprinting towards the shopping mall in great strides, as if we were being chased by a hundred tigers! The JuiceWorks outlet is hidden behind the escalator, and when we arrived there we scanned the menu to order anything remotely resembling green tea or grass. Since there was no green-tea related item on the menu, we decided to buy a wheatgrass shot to bring back to Jackson to complete this clue.

When we wanted to order the wheatgrass shot, they informed us that they were out of stock. Jason got shocked and exclaimed, "TAK ADA STOCK?! OMG! Tak ada stock! So drama! So drama tak de benda ini!!". Haha. That was hillarious, J! In the end, the counter ladies realise that we were all RUSH participants and upon showing our Group Passport, we were then handed our next clue envelope. We thought that we needed to find another routemarker for our next clue, but inside the envelope was Jackson's name card - so we hurried back to find him in his room to pass him his namecard.

We ran all the way again, up the escalators and back to the Maxis lift lobby, took the lift up and ran back to Jackson who was waiting in the same spot. And guess what?

The RATTs were the first to complete the task and we were awarded the full 100 points! Woo hoo!! Subsequent teams received 15 points penalty for each successive finishing position, with the team from IOI Mall at 2nd place with 85 points and the team from Maxis with 70 points. We really had fun running all over the place, and yeah it felt great! :D

Upon completion of the "treasure hunt" roadblock, teams were being presented with their next clue... What is it? Well you gotta wait for Pre-Challenge 8's entry due tomorrow! :P

Pre-Challenge 7: Balls and Bands!

We've officially gone past 2/3 of all the 9 RUSH Challenges already! WOO HOO!

For tonight, teams will head over to the 'shorter' step-sister club (LOL!) for the 845pm BodyVive class. BodyVive is a new Les Mills group exercise program, newly introduced in May in FF if I'm not mistaken.

I've tried it before once during the preview class some months back and I never had so much fun playing with balls and bands (Ok, that sounded quite wrong!), but yeah, it's quite a fun class!

The class involves some light impact exercises, and you'll be supplied with a small ball and some stretchy bands for resistance training. The songs can be quite catchy, brings back some memories of yesteryear, and it's one of the classes that you can have fun with your friends.

Unfortunately, one of our teammate, KK is in Bangkok for a week long conference, so he'll be missing the fun over here with the last few remaining challenges. So for tonight, it'll be me, Simon, Jason and our Rose, Natalie. And we're coming in light blue... Yeee haaa! Am wondering what our roadblock challenge would be tonight, we were told that it would be significantly harder compared to the Sodoku and Movie Quote challenges so far... *scratches head* :P

Challenge 6 - Stepping Up... To the Movies!

Hey there peeps!

I know some of you were so eager to find out how our team did during the last challenge at Wisma SPK and been waiting to read this entry, so here it is!

Our 6th Challenge brought all teams to Wisma SPK for an early afternoon BodyStep class. It was the first time that a challenge was conducted on a Saturday, and unfortunately for some of The RATTer's, three of them were unable to make it for this round. KK was out for a wedding luncheon, Jason was on holiday with his family for a Penang getaway while Natalie has some prior engagements.

So for this round, it was up to Simon and me... Haha. But we were lucky that some friends chose to come with us to support us during the class considering that there were just the both of us. Le Roy accompanied us to the gym, while Osman and Mike attended the BodyStep with us.

We arrived at the gym bout 11-ish, and went downstairs to stretch a bit while also took the time to er, perfect some moves. Hahaha. Under Simon's strict supervision of course... Hahah. Osman was there to guide me (I'm execution-challenged) so yeah, learn a couple of things that I didn't quite realise before.

For this round, most of the other teams came in full force - and most we're in colour themed as well. Roland conducted the class, and some of the songs were really nice, except I got lost in the middle when we went "Round The World"... Hahahaha.

After the class, teams approached Alvin for the next clue as Nick, the GXM of Wisma SPK was nowhere to be seen. Hahaha. So like the HITZ.fm fugitive like that... :P

Eventually teams caught up with Nick at the lower floor of the gym, and after verifying points for team's attendance, we were handed our next task before we were able to claim the clue for the 7th RUSH Challenge.

For this 'roadblock', teams were given a list of 10 very memorable movie quotes. Teams were then given approximately 15 minutes to figure out which movies these quotes were taken from, and I guess we were kinda lucky coz I'm a movie buff! :D

There were 10 movie quotes (forgotten 2 of them but shades reminded me), so guys, try and guess first if you can figure them out before refering to the answer at the bottom of this entry (The movie titles must be complete, as titles may be part/from sequels.)

I managed to get 6 of them (out of 10, 6 were more recent and contemporary movies) while 4 more were considered as classic movies. We had some problems with the classic movies so we called our resident-classic-movie-genius, Kok Hoe for some assistance. Hahaha. In total we managed to get 9 answers, except for the first one.

Team Disney offered to help us (nice of them!) and they managed to get 9 of them, with the exception of No. 5 in the list above which I knew :P Hehe. So in the end, we agreed to help them and soon we also got confirmation of our last unconfirmed answer.

We passed our answer sheet to Alvin Looi for checking, and for the first time since the challenge began, bonus points were being awarded for the roadblock tasks. Each correct answer will be awarded with 10 points and guess what, our teams received the full 100 points! Great job team! :)

After that, teams received the 7th RUSH Challenge clue... Which was cryptic... And involved some solving... "I may not be as tall as my two neighbours" (Get it?) and so guys, see ya guys there on Tuesday night for the 845pm class! Wooot!

Pre-Challenge 6 - Ready or Not? Here I Step!

Wow... Time really flies when you're having such a great time. We're done with our 5th RUSH Challenge already and the 6th one is happening tomorrow!

Our 6th RUSH clue slip instructed teams to proceed to Wisma SPK tomorrow for the BodyStep class at 1210pm. This Saturday is actually a public holiday for those that are unaware, so yeah, late last night before I slept I went to boot-up my PC to check out my work calender to make sure that my company didn't adopt today as a holiday. The replacement holiday has instead been slotted to 26th December (Boxing Day).

For tomorrow's challenge, three of my teammates are unable to make it - Jason is going to Penang with his family, KK is attending a wedding luncheon while Natalie is occupied. So looks like it would be and Simon this time around... Hope the other teams will keep us company through the class *looks at Team Disney and Tropical 5* since we'll be outnumbered... Hahahaha.

We are also not sure what puzzle awaits us tomorrow after completion of the BodyStep class, but I'm really looking forward to crack my head on it... Haha. Hope some of my experiences in playing Cranium would help me tomorrow too. Hehe.

And also, would like to take this chance to wish two of our greatest supporters, the twins Kelvin and Alvin a very Happy Birthday! The twins celebrated their birthday on Tuesday, June 3rd. So if ya see them around in the gym somewhere, walk up to them and say, "Hi! Happy Belated Birthday!". I'm sure they'll be surprised!!

Challenge 5: We Came, We Ride!

Our 5th RUSH Challenge (and arguably our toughest yet) brought teams to FF Menara Axis. As mentioned before in the previous entry, for the first time since the RUSH Challenges began, teams actually had to RUSH and compete for places for the RPM and RPM Challenge classes slotted at 630pm and 730pm respectively. Previously all classes were held at 840pm to ensure that most, if not all participants were able to attend the class.

There was a limit of 10 bikes for RUSH-er's for the easier 630pm class while for the RPM Challenge class, it was on first-come-first-serve basis. RUSH-er's will have to register for bikes as any other member would for the RPM Challenge class.

I left the office on the dot yesterday evening (I work near Phileo D'sara) at 530pm in anticipation that I would make it to Menara Axis by 545pm (it usually takes me bout 15 mins to reach there from work). Simon called me earlier to warn me to try to leave on time as it was raining like cats and dogs (and cows and sheeps too!) and it didn't help when I got stuck in front of Menara Axis to make the U-turn for more than 20 minutes. The traffic light was out and it was still out when we left Axis after that! Deng!

By the time I reached, all RUSH bikes have been snapped up and I have to wait for the RPM Challenge class after that. There were still some bikes in the studio, but all 10 spots have been snapped up (How lah did they avoid the hectic traffic? All ponteng kerja issit?! :P) So I sat down at the lounge while chatting to Nina while looking at Osmy and Kak Nita doing their BodyJam. Decided to join them during the 2nd half of Krump Klub to warm me legs a little before the cycling torture. Haha.

Nat had originally intended to attend the 630pm class with Simon but couldn't make it as her she had problems with her parking ticket. KK left his office at about 6pm and I first thought wouldn't be able to make it due to the heavy rain and heavy traffic on the Federal Highway. Jason was optimistic to make it juz in time, but the heavy rain didn't make it possible. In the end, Simon attended the first RPM class, while myself, Nat and KK attended the 2nd RPM Challenge class with our friends from Tropical 5, and cycling enthusiasts Dennis and Nina! Jason... Hmmm... Makan dua buku ajelah! :P

After the three of us rode with Wes Carter, we came out of the cycling studio feeling so RELIEVED (the class was not bad actually, particularly LOVED the cooldown and stretching tracks) and then we approached Alvin to obtain our next clue for RUSH Challenge #6. But before we were given the clue, we were asked to solve a 3X3X9 Soduko puzzle. Nat and Osmy were experts in this game and we solved in about 5 minutes. We then proceeded to collect the next clue from Teoh, the new GXM of FF Menara Axis.

We heard after we showered that team Disney from Leisure Mall had trouble in solving their puzzle and one of their team members, Scott, opted to do 100 push-up's as a penalty for not solving their puzzle. Poor thing. Alvin, you so bad lahhh!

Pre-Challenge 5: Stressing Our Legs!

Today is our 5th RUSH Challenge... And perhaps the hardest once before/after BodyAttack... :X

Today's Challenge is different in the sense that perhaps for the very first time since the team RUSH Challenge began that we actually have to RUSH to our tasks!

For our 5th Challenge (the first for this week), all RUSH teams are required to RUSH over to FF Menara Axis to attend one of two RPM classes... The first one at 630pm is the standard RPM class (easier) while the second one at 730pm is RPM CHALLENGE (which is harder with 2 extra tracks, one Spinning and one Hill track).

When we were talking about the upcoming RPM classes, many friends and regular RPM goers recommend us to join the 630pm class as RPM Challenge is indeed not for the faint hearted (and a RPM newbie), it's like joining an Advanced Step class when you're not even familiar with a step board. Oh dear!

Since the challenge starts early today, not all of us are able to make it for the 630pm class maybe except for Simon and Natalie (lucky them) while KK and Jason will join the RPM Challenge an hour later. For today, my attendance is still a question mark, although I know some people would pay me big time (oklah, maybe 'contribute' is the better word) to see me torture myself on a bike... Hahahahah. RPM Challenge somemore!

You don't get to see THAT very often! It's like a "When pigs fly" kinda moment or now we can termed it as "When Colin goes for RPM Challenge". LOL.

So see ya hardcore RPM-er's later tonight! And to my teammates, in case I can't make it, sorry ah... It's really due to my work... :(

Challenge 4: Jab, Punch, Kick!

Our 4th RUSH Challenge brought the teams to FF Wisma Consplant this time around, for a fantastic BodyCombat class with Swee.

The RATTs decided to go green for the class, and a majority of the other teams did too. Team Disney from Leisure Mall came in red while the team from IOI Mall came in white tops.

I'm not really as big of a BodyCombat fan as Simon or Jason, but I certainly did enjoy the class very much. I know Simon and Jason did, and I believed that it was KK's first combat class as well (was it? :P)

The track selections were excellent and I particularly liked this song from the musical Hairspray which makes you juz feel extremely chirpy and juz wanna dance... And one of the songs had a very, very, very long and fast speedbag hand sequence and you can really feel the pain! UURSSSHHHH! :P

Alvin took a couple of pics of us in action (will post them up when I get them) and yeah, we were really working hard that night ok! Hahahah. Well ok, maybe I cheated a little during the push up.... Hahaha.

After the class was over, the team met up with Aubrey to hand in the clue slip for Week 3 in exchange for Week 5's clue. In addition to completing Task 3, we had to answer an additional question in Week 3's challenge - what is the total number of Les Mills classes held in Leisure Mall in an average week. The correct answer is 59, and we were then handed our 5th RUSH Challenge clue slip....

And for the next challenge... It's a bit different from the previous challenges so far, in the sense that the class timings are earlier (630pm and 730pm) instead of the usual 840pm slots. For the 5th Challenge, teams are required to head over to FF Menara Axis on Wednesday for... RPM!

The lucky first 10 who are able to register for the 630pm class will attend the standard RPM class while those who attend the 730pm class should prepare themselves for 2 additional tracks in RPM Challenge.... :X

To be honest I've not stepped in a RPM class for more than 3 years now... And I think none of my teammates have done RPM before, maybe except for Natalie. Hehe. So now is our chance to ride the bike while listening to fast beat disco music!
Wish us luck! This would probably be the hardest class yet! And also, we have a mystery task to complete after the class before we get to collect the clue for RUSH Challenge 6!

What Do We Do After Each Challenge?

So far, for the past 3 challenges, all the RUSH Challenge tasks have taken place during the 840/845pm class slots at Klang Bukit Tinggi, IOI Mall and Leisure Mall. So by the time each of the class ends (and after our photo taking session with the instructors/GXC's and getting our team passport verified) it would probably be about 10pm, and by the time we take another 20 mins to shower, and leave the gym it will be nearing 1030pm.

And normally, we would already be having our dinner at 1030pm.

So what did we do this week after our crazy Jam session at Leisure Mall?

Well, everyone was dead hungry, so we had a great, grand feast!

Nat brought us to this famous hawker center in Cheras (the two giant prawns place) and overthere, each of us ordered our main course while ordering some side dishes....

There were 5 of us and this is what we ordered:
- Tom Yam Chicken with rice
- Pad Thai
- Fried oyster omellette

- Crispy p*** :P

Challenge 3: Don't Stop The Music!

Yay! We've officially completed 1/3 of the 9 RUSH Challenges so far!

Our 3rd RUSH Challenge was to attend the BodyJam class last night at Leisure Mall. For last night, the team decide to wear all black, and guess what, I guess we're kinda lucky in the sense that we all had a black BodyJam tee/sleeveless to wear!

Peter was teaching the class last night, and he told us that he had managed to read our blog before this and yeah, he was gonna KILL! KILL! KILL!!! us all... Muahahahahahah.

Some of Simon's and my favourite tracks were chosen last night during the sardine-packed class - The Shapeshifters started the class off with a "New Day" followed by the ever playful song "Conga" by Gloria Estefan. After that, the cardio level was brought up with Rosabell's "Cha Cha ~~Hell~~ Heels"! For 9 consecutive minutes, everyone in the class were shouting and stomping their feet! Hyper was the word to best describe it! Wooot!

"1, 2, Cha Cha Cha!!!"

The following sub-blocks is one of my personal favourite in the recent few releases... Street Latin was the flava and we started off with Chelo's version of "Cha Cha" followed by the loud and thrashy "Gasolina" by Daddy Yankee feat Pitbull, Lit' Jon and Noreaga.

After that song, we were practically gasping for air as the class was so hyped up and stuffy!

We recovered to the sexy "Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani before the 2nd block kicked off... And it was... no other... than Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music" block!!! Woo hooo! We were all having so much fun in this block, the few of us were leaping like mad during the Jungle Jump and we bounced towards the end with each other in a circle... Haha. Very SS already lah I tell you.... :P

We ended the class with "Beautiful Liar" by Beyonce feat. Shakira. I guess all of us really had fun in the class, together with our friends from Leisure Mall.

After the class, Peter remarked that he would LOVE to see us in his class again for the future upcoming challenges... He hoped that we will 'kena' his BodyStep or BodyPump class which we have not done yet... Hahaha. Am really not sure if we would survive both of those classes... Hahaha.

After the class, we met up with the GXC of Leisure Mall, Winnie to obtain the clue to the 4th RUSH Challenge. Prior to that, we have to submit the clue slip of the 2nd Challenge with the answer to the question - "How many classes does the GXC of IOI teach at IOI Mall?" to Winnie. The correct answer is 5 and we proceeded to collect the next clue also upon the verification of Challenge 3's question (question and answer to be revealed in next entry, ok?)

And our next clue directs us to.... *drum roll*

Fitness First Wisma Consplant this coming Friday for BodyCombat!!!!!!!

So guys and gals, come and join us for some punches, jabs and roundhouse kicks this Friday as we rock Wisma Consplant! WOOOOOT!!!

Pre-Challenge 3: Ready to Jam!

It seems like only yesterday we've agreed to join this adventure and we are nearly approaching the 1/3 mark of the RUSH '08 Challenge!

Our 3rd Challenge tomorrow is to attend a BodyJam class (Woo hoo! Finally! BodyJam!) at Leisure Mall at 845pm. Peter Chang will be conducting the class again, much to his delight (and also much to our horror) because we don't know how is he going to kill us this time after he finished us off in Attack last Friday. Haha!

All of the RATTer's made an appearance yesterday at The Curve, and our theme last night was white. All teammates wore white, even close friends and supporters too turn up in white so yeah it was quite a fun thing. Thanks guys for being a sport ;)

The team attended a record of three classes yesterday - Jam, Combat and Pump!

My body is still quite sore after the late Pump last night, and my teammates made me go up on the stage to talk about the Miracle event last night. I guess that I was nervous (I had like 10 minutes to think of what to say!) and so the next time we'll send KK (our PR officer, hahahaha) to do the speech. He seems to be quite natural at words, so what say the rest? :P

Jason did his maiden Pump last night in Swee's class and I reckon, like Attack he doesn't really like it, but we still have the Pump challenge to go through... Oh dread. Hahaha.

Also, the team is also in the midst of setting up our coupon sales mechanism, so guys, if you want to buy the coupons, pls get them from any of us ok? We carry limited booklets with us at any one time, so let us know in advance if you need them to make sure that we have them when you wanna buy them. Thanks peeps for your support.

The team will be wearing black today if you are coming to Leisure Mall tonight to join in the Jam class at 840pm. So come and Jam with us, have some great time shaking that booty! See ya all later!

Challenge 2: Barely Survivin' Attack!

Haha... I'm pretty sure many of you wanted to know how did things go this evening at IOI Mall... Well let's put it that the class was HYPER and some of us barely survived the torture that we were put through by Peter... :P

As mentioned in the previous posting, our 2nd RUSH Challenge is to attend the BodyAttack class on Friday evening at IOI Mall. Together with it, in the clue slip, we had an additional question - we were supposed to count the number of classes that the GXM of IOI have during the following week of May 23rd to June 1st.

Counting the classes was perhaps the easier part, the class was a totally different thing altogether.

Simon arrived early at IOI and being the crazy class freak that he is, he did BodyJam, BodyCombat and finally the last class BodyAttack. I arrived at the gym slightly before 7pm, and decided to do some 'stretches' and warm up in Brian's BodyBalance at 740pm. Brian did some very memorable Balance tracks, including my fave The Voice Within by Christina Aguilera and back track by Ronan Keating and Le Ann Rimes. Good stuff. Had a good stretch before the Attack class but I guess it wasn't enough..... :p

Jason managed to attend part of the Combat class for warm up, he was afterall still recuperating from his high fever on Monday. Natalie and KK arrived soon after, and for today, we were all dressed in black, and we stood at the corner near the door of the Main Studio.

I think Peter was kinda excited to find out that his class has been picked for the Attack leg of the RUSH Challenge so I DID think he modified his track listing to torture us a little bit more.... Haha. It was Jason's first time in Attack, but the rest of us have done Attack before, it was still ok but I guess my legs were really giving way.... And it also didn't help when Peter only knows MY name (among all other teams in the class) and I was doing the easy option at most times, if not 'mencuri ayam' merata-rata.... Hahahahah.

LOL. I have to say that it brings to memory a similar class that I've attended before in the past... And yes it was Attack as well and the instructor also only knew my name of everyone in the class... Hahaha.

The class was really tough but I'm glad we managed to finish it, despite Jason was still recuperating and Nat's knee is still a little injured. Although the class was really hyper, I guess we really did have FUN and that I guess is the greatest reward of all.

Upon completion of the class, we met up with Alvin to collect the third clue of the RUSH Challenge. For the third RUSH Challenge, teams are required to head over to FF Leisure Mall this coming Tuesday for the 840pm class.... What class is it? Well I'll give you two clues:-

a) You can check out the FF GX Timetable at http://www.fitnessfirst.com.my/ or
b) It's my fave Les Mills GX Class.... :P

Need I say more? Peter must be really excited coz he said he prayed that our following challenges will kena his class and yep, we'll be drill again during his Jam class next week. Cha Cha Heels until we collapse? No More Tears? Don't Stop The Music? Hahhahaha :)

So guys, come and join us next week at Leisure Mall for BodyJam yea! Let's rock the house!

In the meantime, the team will be at our homeclub, FF The Curve for Saturday afternoon's BodyJam, so if ya guys want to buy your coupons from us, pls come and see any of us. Pre-Challenge 2: Psych-ing up for Attack!

Just finished a meeting here in the office, our division monthly meeting actually and wooo hooo... We have free lunch in the office today - one of our department is making positive EBIT and we're having pizzas for lunch!

We'll be having our 2nd RUSH Challenge tonight, and for this challenge team members are required to do the BodyAttack class at IOI Mall (840pm). Also, for the first time, an additional question is inserted into the clue slip, so yeah, for the following week we have to go and do some counting.... Hahaha.

Jason is feeling better already, recovering well from his high fever. He was on MC for two days on Tues and Wed; and was back at work yesterday. He says he's ready for Attack tonight (but he's not done Attack before) so yeah I guess it will be FUN FUN FUN :P

Simon is of course quite busy, with practice for his upcoming performances during the last quarter of the year. KK is perhaps one of the busiest person at work that I know (he went back to office AFTER the last RUSH Challenge at FF KBT) and as or me, yeah, have been pretty busy (was working on Wesak Day in the office) with two very lengthy and highly technical tender clarifications to settle. But it's all done with, and I'm enjoying my leisurely Friday afternoon.

Nat on the other hand, got herself slightly injured on her knee when she fell and hit a chair at her house last night. She told me that it was bleeding and she was applying some ice over it, am not sure if she can do the class tonight, but in the case if she decides to, well take it easy ok, gal? Take the easy options... Hehe (like I do, even though I'm not injured... :P)

So we're all pretty much ready for tonight's challenge and not sure what will happen next.... All I can say is that I can't wait for the Jam challenge to come! That'd be fun for sure!

Come and catch us and join in the fun tonight at IOI Mall if you're able to make it for the Attack class later on. We'll be in black, so I guess it will be easy to spot a bunch of crazy guys (and a gal) in black at the back of the class...

Challenge 1: Balance is the Key!

We had our team briefing last week on Thursday evening at 9pm at Menara Axis where all team leaders (and most team members) attended. The briefing was conducted by Alvin and Herny, and all of our enquiries and doubts were addressed at the meeting. And at the end of the briefing, we received our first clue:

Checkpoint 1: Proceed to FF Klang Bukit Tinggi on May 20th to attend a BodyBalance class at 845pm. Upon completion of the challenge, the next clue (for Checkpoint 2) will be issued by the GXC/M upon signing and confirmation of the attendance score card.

Left work after a heavy workload day (with two meetings, one was scheduled at 8am!) to head over to FF KBT. I've not been there myself before, and frankly to be honest I wasn't too sure of the way there. Printed a location map the previous night so that did help a bit. Nat sms'ed me some directions but I was told not to use the Klang town way as it would be terribly jammed during the evening.

Simon called me on the way and told me that he was waiting for me after the Klang KESAS Toll. It was jammed as I left the office but once I've sneaked into the NKVE it was quite smooth. FF KBT is SOOOO far away, even with using highways it still took me a bout a good 30-35 minutes at top speed to reach the mall. And the shopping mall is HUGE!

We parked outside and rushed inside, hoping to make it time for 'warm-up' aka BodyJam.

It was nice to be able to attend Fifi's class (haven't had the chance to yet!) and frankly, me, Simon and Natalie were simply having fun in the studio, hopping away to Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music. We were also joined by our LM friends in the studio towards the end of the block, and boy it was quite fun! :P

KK arrived bout 15 mins before Jam finished, and our poor Jason is down with high fever. He wanted to come but we (and Aunty Karen) advised him not to as his temperature is rather irregular at the moment. So rest well first ya J! Don't worry, we have another 8 more challenges.... Hahahah. Rest well, get well first and then we all will be back on track.

We registered for the Balance class before the class started, and the class was very full! Michelle was quite surprise to see such a packed class and she didn't know that her class was the first class picked for the Rush 2008 Challenge. Hehe. Surprise, surprise!

The Balance class was good, in fact I liked most of the songs selected. Simon was happy to able to do his fave 'Heaven' again, KK enjoyed the twist track while I enjoyed 'Hurt', 'Goodbye Milky Way' and the relaxation track. Awesome stuff, considering I've not been doing Balance for over two months already.

After the class was over, teams met up with Eric to get their Rush Scorecard signed, and then we we were handed our second clue....

Well, I don't want go give away too much on the second clue to our fellow readers but what I can tell you is that it will take place at FF IOI Mall this Friday 23rd May at 840pm.... (Can come and join us in the class and have fun together!)

Oh well maybe another clue: HIGH intensity and HIGH impact.

I guessed they started us off easy with a gentle Balance class and followed straight away with.... BODYATTACK!!! :P

Hahahhaa. Come and join us in the class while we burn some mega-calories!

~Enjoy The Moments..~

Really glad and honored to be a part of this wonderful team!.. This is really a great competition for myself as I have never joined in previous years.. This is the 1st time.. Well, I feel a little bit of nervous.. Also, excited!!..

For me, the competition is all about the Process!.. No matter at the end of the competition, our team can get into the Final or not.. I will still enjoy the process as much as I could!.. It is really not easy to commit ourselves into this very competition.. And, definitely not easy to get the same "channel" of team mates.. So far, I am pretty happy to be a part of this team where I really could feel the correct flow in 5 of us.. Of course, nothing is Perfect.. But still, I am wishing for the best!..

The 1st challenge is coming.. Tomorrow, Body Balance class.. I am sick now.. Hopefully tomorrow I will recover lor!.. Anyway, anyhow.. I wish to tell all the RATTers.. Enjoy the Moments!!.. No matter win or lose.. We will always stay together and we enjoy the whole process.. That's the most importance, isn't it?..

About the Miracle '08 RUSH Challenge! (Updated 26th May 2008)

Well guys, here are some info on the Rush '08 Challenge that is currently taking place before the Miracle '08 Grand Finale on 21st June, Saturday at the Piazza area, The Curve from 10am - 7pm.

The RATTs' Part

Well for the first part of the RUSH '08 Challenge, teams need to complete a series of 9 Checkpoint Tasks which will take place across all FF Clubs in the Klang Valley. At each of the Checkpoint, a task needs to be completed, and in the case of the first three clues, the task is actually attending a group exercise class! Starting from the 2nd Checkpoint onwards, we also have some additional tasks to do, and to it's still a mystery to us because we don't know what's coming (and it's different for each Checkpoint! :) )

Upon completion of each class, for each member's attendance, a team will be awarded 10 points. If all 5 members turn up for the challenge, the team will receive a bonus of 10 points (overall 60 points) for the checkpoint.

At the end of the RUSH '08 Challenge, the top 2/3/4 teams with the highest points and coupon sales will proceed to the finals. At the Grand Finale, all qualified teams will put up a 5-minutes performance to boost up donations and collections from the general public. So don't miss this chance to see us perform, have fun, having some laughs while doing your part for charity! :)

So What Can YOU do?

We only ask that you do your part for charity.

Help us to raise funds for the China Earthquake Relief Efforts under the umbrella of MERCY Malaysia (Letter, Website) and also to benefit the residents of the KIRTARSH Handicapped and Disabled Children's Home (Letter 1, Letter 2) .
